BBC News – Teenage volunteers make dementia residents ‘feel alive’

26th June 2018

Well done to young volunteers at YOPEY who are giving up their time for people living with dementia. This project, made possible by a grant from the #iwill Fund through Suffolk Community Foundation, aims to tackle loneliness by encouraging young people to visit older people in their communities.

The volunteers receive training around what to expect and what is expected of them as part of the befriending scheme. It teaches them the skills to deal with dementia, which they may need later in their lives, whilst also easing the loneliness of residents in care homes.
