Clare and Lucy accompanied supporters of the Women & Girls’ Fund to a fabulous lunch cooked by individuals receiving support from Suffolk Refugee Support with their Patron Sir Nick Young, former CEO of the British Red Cross .
The three-course meal included dishes from Iran, Syria and Afghanistan all hand cooked, some taking many hours. Guests heard from Sir Nick and Martin Simmonds who shared some interesting statistics on the global issues surrounding refugees.
Lucy and SCF supporter Emma visited Oasis English Language School in Ipswich, which offers English Language sessions for up to 25 students from 24 different countries. Oasis is the only provision in Ipswich which offers a creche whilst lessons are taking place.
Thank you for taking the time to show us around and for all the amazing work you do 💜

SAX Community Fridge is one of the latest community groups to receive funding from the Sizewell C Community Fund.
An innovative project that brings the community together by redistributing surplus food at regular community drop-in sessions in Saxmundham, SAX Community Fridge has received a £12,117 grant from the Sizewell C Community Fund.
Lead volunteer Martin Thorold, who helps to run the project alongside its founder Marion Hedley Lewis (pictured), said: “We are absolutely delighted to have received a grant from the Sizewell C Community Fund. Whilst our core goal is preventing food waste, what we’re most proud of is the community that’s grown around our twice-weekly sessions in Saxmundham. Each gathering welcomes between 50 and 100 visitors who come not just for food, but also to enjoy coffee, cake and conversation. Now in our fourth year, these sessions have helped reduce loneliness, support mental health and bring together people from across the area who might not otherwise meet.”
The Sizewell C Community Fund will provide up to £23m to local charities, community groups and organisations which are delivering projects that benefit communities located closest to, and most impacted by, Sizewell C development activity sites in East Suffolk.
