As part of Edward Creasy’s Shrieval Programme for 2021, a very special charity walk across Suffolk will take place to raise vital funds to support the work of local charities and community groups.
Together, on September 11th 2021, walkers will make the journey on foot from St Edmundsbury Cathedral to Clare Castle, a distance of approximately 20 miles. As we see restrictions continue to ease and our communities emerge from the pandemic it has never been more important to support #TeamSuffolk to continue their work to rebuild local communities.
Money raised will be added to The High Sheriff’s Fund for distribution at The High Sheriff’s Awards in spring 2022. Awards and grants will be made to exceptional organisations for the work they do on citizenship, community safety and crime prevention, particularly tackling issues such as:
- Bullying
- Anti-social behaviour
- Homelessness
- Internet safety
- Knife crime
- Drug and alcohol abuse/awareness
- Community cohesion, especially with older people and minorities.
I’m delighted that we have pulled together a wonderful team for the High Sheriff’s walk. It will be a great opportunity for everyone involved to meet personally and informally; a chance to walk across a really attractive part of the county on a path that is recognised; and we will be looking to raise funds to support the wonderful Suffolk charities who have worked with such energy, enthusiasm and commitment during lockdown. 20 miles is a fair distance but it should be a good occasion.
