Children & Families

Children & Families

Suffolk seeks to create a positive environment for our young people to thrivedevelop and become the best they can be. Over 19,000 children are living in deprivation (almost all qualifying for free school meals) and in some areas of the county the concentration becomes as much as one in three. Increasingly, our focus has turned to supporting projects that deliver early intervention, supporting the development of strong parenting skills and a positive family environment.

The Foundation’s grantmaking has focused on funding projects that deliver positive outcomes for children with disabilities, poor mental health and the multiple disadvantages created by deprivation and inequality of access to education and services.

During the Coronavirus pandemic, emergency support continues to support charities and community groups to keep moving forward with their work and adapt their service delivery. In the coming months and years, the sector will need higher levels of funding to support an increase in the numbers of families whose challenges have been compounded by these extraordinary times.

The charities supporting children and young families in Suffolk need your financial and practical support to do their work.

A voice from Suffolk…

Our shared aim is to create positive environments where children can thrive and develop to meet their full potential and be the best they can be. During the pandemic, Suffolk Community Foundation have worked with key partners like us here at Community Action Suffolk to support charities and community groups to move their work forward and flex accordingly.

Christine Abraham

CEO, Community Action Suffolk

There are so many fabulous charities and community groups in Suffolk delivering early intervention projects, encouraging skills that are required to become a great parent an supporting positive family environments where our young people can really thrive.

Matthew Hicks

Leader, Suffolk County Council

The fund was originally created by my daughter May through a sponsored walk. She is particularly interested in music and supporting young people with challenges or disability who are finding help through this art form. When Suffolk Community Foundation suggested they might like to help fund ‘Rock Up’ it seemed a perfect fit.

Colin De La Rue

De La Rue Family Fund

We’ve worked in partnership with Suffolk Community Foundation to create the Suffolk Police & Crime Commissioner’s Fund. The fund has awarded several grants to the Porch Project, including an initial £20,000 to get the project off the ground.
