Arts and Culture Fund

The Foundation is building an endowment fund to distribute grants that will ensure equality of access to all the benefits that arts, culture and music can provide to improve the lives of the people of Suffolk.

It is widely recognised that the arts play an important role in:

  • Promoting health and wellbeing
  • Tackling disadvantage by offering access to services and opportunities
  • Promoting community cohesion by breaking down barriers and help develop sustainable and supportive communities, encouraging diversity and ensuring accessibility
  • Supporting local solutions to meet local needs

‘There is strong evidence that participation in the arts can contribute to community cohesion, reduce social exclusion and isolation, and/or make communities feel safer and stronger.’ (The value of arts and culture to people and society – Arts Council March 2014).

Arts and culture organisations throughout Suffolk are already extremely well placed in understanding the needs of our community, and in effectively delivering programmes to help those most disadvantaged in our society. We also know that pressure on public spending has driven cuts in arts spending, especially affecting initiatives that have been able to reach out to those most in need in our community.
