Royal Hospital School

Royal Hospital School have many pupils who wish to make a real difference locally. Working in partnership with the Foundation, their charity committee, which is made up of a group of enthusiastic young people from all years of the school, carefully considers which local charities should be put forward for the school vote.

The fundraising activities, which are varied and creative, include selling Valentine roses, baking and selling extravagant cakes and covering the distance to Sydney in Australia collectively by running, cycling, walking and swimming 10,500 miles.
Money raised so far has been awarded to the following groups:

• Lighthouse Women’s Aid
• Suffolk Young People’s Health Project
• Ipswich Community Media
• Ipswich Community Garden
• Our Special Friends (the animal companionship group)
• The Rural Coffee Caravan

ActivLives – Ipswich Community Garden
This donation will be used to support the Bee Amazed Project at the People’s Community Garden, based on Maidenhall Allotments in Ipswich. It will provide opportunities for both children and adults living in areas of high urban deprivation to get involved in beekeeping and conservation volunteering in their local area. They will use the funding to sponsor one of the bee hives.

Ipswich Community Media
To run a health and wellbeing Community ‘Road Show’ in the heart of Jubilee Park, an identified area for antisocial behaviour, with a myriad of poor health – both physical and mental, and in a community neighbourhood that is extremely diverse, disadvantaged and shows a distinct lack of connection with local services and support.

Lighthouse Women’s Aid
This is to fund the summer play scheme for the children who are resident in the refuge with their mothers.
Many of the children who stay at the refuge would never have had the opportunity to experience these activities and many will find new skills and interests, the positive memories can last a lifetime.

Our Special Friends
This funding will help to increase volunteer numbers. The funding will specifically be used to cover the costs of Volunteer Recruitment, enabling them to visit more people and raise more smiles.
The volunteers help owners with their animals at home and many take their own dog/animal to visit those who are socially isolated.

Rural Coffee Caravan
This grant will fund 3 x 2-hour visits to villages within a 10-mile radius of the Royal Hospital School, where villagers will have the opportunity to come together in a social setting, getting to know neighbours and fellow residents better.
It also offers the chance to access otherwise hard to find information about the supportive services available in Suffolk.

Suffolk Young People’s Health Project – 4YP
To run their All Music Talks project which will address poor mental health and poor awareness of mental health issues. Through exposure to creative arts and event planning, it will offer Young People a sense of achievement and self-belief, raising their aspirations and potentially influencing career paths.
