Footsteps Walking With You is new charity that was developed in response to the lack of professional counselling on offer for 11 to 25 year olds in Suffolk. Based in Woodbridge, the charity helps provide affordable counselling to young people, helping them take their first steps forward on their journey towards wellbeing.
The service caters to a wide variety of issues, helping those struggling with anxiety, self-harming, bullying, depression, eating disorders and bereavements. To help these young people, its professional counsellors help to provide a safe, non-judgemental space where they can explore their emotions and feelings through conversation, art or other creative tools such as puppets.
Over the course of the pandemic the counselling service has been operating online, offering counselling using platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams. By adapting in this way, Footsteps Walking With You was able to support young people right across Suffolk who otherwise would not have been able to travel to their centre. Every single session that was run performed an important role in keeping the most isolated individuals in the region connected.
It is important to us that our service is accessible to everyone, and for that reason we don’t charge for counselling. Funding from Suffolk Community Foundation has enabled us to fund more counselling sessions and support more young people.
