BSC Multicultural Services
During the course of their work, this organisation realised that BME (Black Minority Ethnic) night economy workers such as taxi drivers, shopkeepers, and restaurant and takeaway workers were experiencing hate crime on a regular basis in Ipswich and Suffolk. Their research has found that many of these vulnerable people have been victims of hate crime and/or physical violence and have not reported the crime, either because they feel they will not be listened to or that they are not aware how to report it. In partnership with Suffolk Constabulary and the Foundation, this charity have set up a project called ‘Tackling BME Hate Crime’ in order to raise awareness and encourage more BME people to report such incidents.
