Moreton Hall Youth Action is a charity evolving to work with those most vulnerable in the locality and outreach across Suffolk. Their main focus is to provide opportunities for youth development and community participation through partnership delivery of community training and projects. They provide an education provision that focusses on interests and a passion of a young person, in the hope to find their spark and to encourage them to value academic qualifications through a need to do well in what they love, not as a requirement to hit a school’s target.
Over the past six months, the team that lead this vital group have developed an on-site provision allowing them to be adaptable to need. Teaching trades like plumbing, carpentry, home electrics, mechanics, music production, brick laying, and tiling, the team at Moreton Hall Youth Action needed to be able to reach as many people as possible without the barrier of a building and facilities.
Following the funding we received, we purchased a van and transformed it within three weeks. We offered it to areas and groups of young people and soon it was fully booked. We have hit the road, currently delivering in rural areas across the county from Great Cornard, Ipswich, Mildenhall, Stowmarket to Needham Market and Great Barton. Running six-week programmes we have given young people the chance to find something they love which would never have been available for them to access before this was made. They now have a focus to progress. Through the incredible support of Suffolk Community Foundation and using the amazing brains of students and the skills of coach builders, the idea of the Construction Box became a reality.
