Ned Norman-Butler completes 1000km fundraising challenge

In lockdown, Ned discovered a love for cycling. When he was given a new bike for his birthday in February 2021, he decided to take the opportunity to do something really positive and challenge himself to cycle 1000km before his 11th birthday in February 2022. That meant cycling 20km every week in all weather conditions, snow, rain, ice, hail, sunshine, mud…

What’s so special about Ned’s story is that not only did he set himself this challenge, he also wanted to give something back and decided to do it in order to raise funds for both Suffolk Community Foundation and The Friends of St Mary’s Church, Stoke by Nayland.

We’re so pleased that Ned has now completed his challenge, a huge feat, and smashed his fundraising target of £1,000 to raise over £1,600!

Just before Christmas, I completed my 1000Km challenge!  Thank you VERY much for supporting and sponsoring me, your generous contributions inspired me to keep pedaling even when the weather was bad, I was really tired from school and didn’t want to go on another bike ride!  I feel very proud to have completed my challenge and know that the money raised will be gratefully received by the two charities.

My favourite ride was cycling to the Ramsholt Arms from home.  This was nearly 70km long and we needed to get two foot ferries to cross the Orwell and Deben rivers.  I was definitely ready for my lunch when we arrived! I have done a few bike rides with my friends which were really fun and have mastered the art of fixing a puncture.  The easiest 20Km I cycled was at the Phoenix bike track which was absolutely epic!
